Original Germany WW2 Friedrich Herder Abr Sohn K98 bayonet dated 1943, original matching serials metal scabbard, marked leather frog. Scarce type in rare UNUSED condition.
Original WW2 era German bayonet for “Karabiner 98K” Mauser bolt-action rifle. Manufactured in 1943 by the well-known German manufacturer Friedrich Herder Abr. Sohn in Solingen. The bayonet is marked 43ffc on ricasso with matching serial and maker’s code on the scabbard’s throat. This is one of the scarce high-quality mid-war production specimens – the overall quality of most bayonets had sharply deteriorated as Germany was getting closer to loosing the war. Friedrich Herder Abr. Sohn has been in the cutlery business since 1727 and had always made an excellent quality product. Their expertise is definitely present in the overall quality of this bayonet.
The bayonet is in rare unused condition – it is certainly in the better-than-average shape for the type. Blued blade has not been re-sharpened; original “blunt” factory edge; the tip is intact. The blade has retained about 99% of its original bluing – this type is rare this nice. Ricasso is sharply stamped 43ffc on one side and serial number 7798 / d on the other. The bayonet is about 15-1/8” / 38.4 cm overall; the blade is about 9-7/8″ / 25 cm long. Original dark-brown Bakelite grips are near-excellent with no cracks or chips. The bayonet’s release button is in perfect working order. The Waffenamt stamp on the bayonet’s release button is WaA519; scabbard’s tip stamp is only partially visible.
The bayonet comes with original steel scabbard stamped on the throat 43ffc on one side and serial number 7789 / d on the other. There is a dent closer to the tip; no surface rust or pitting. Original leather frog is intact; the leather is soft and supple still. There is a manufacturer’s stamp on the belt hanger reads 14I / FIAK47 III. After 80+ years, this World War II era matching serials Germany WW2 Friedrich Herder Abr Sohn K98 bayonet / scabbard & frog set is in 100% serviceable condition still.
