Description

Germany pre-WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol; rare early model without under-lever release; low serial number, mechanically excellent. VERY hard-to-find pre-war type in excellent overall condition, considering the age.

Original pre-WW1 manufacture Imperial Germany large signal pistol manufactured by Immanuel Meffert Co. in Suhl, Thuringia. This is the short-lived early “no under-lever release” model of the famous M1894 Hebel model flare gun that was used extensively throughout WW1.  This early model had a thumb-push lever release that would become loose  This is one hell of a hand cannon: this signal pistol is about 15-1/2 inches / 39.5 cm long; the barrel alone is about 9 inches / 22.5 cm; this signal pistol weights about 3 pounds, 2.2 oz / 1.425 kg.

Low serial number 9589 is stamped on several parts; the Imperial “under crown” B and U firing test and arsenal inspection stamps are on the opposite side of the frame. The frame was probably re-blued; the action is nice and crisp; this rare early model specimen is in excellent overall condition. No dents on the barrel or the frame; the bore is mostly clean with only some minor surface pitting. The spur and trigger assembly is excellent with no play; original lanyard ring is intact. Oak wood grips are probably a later replacement; the grips are in excellent shape with no chips or cracks. All parts are tight with no play; this specimen is only slightly used but it is mechanically excellent – rare as such. These are the actual photos; Mauser clips pictured were used as photo props and will not be included with the lot 😉 Please contact me if you are interested in the Czech-made Cold era 26.5mm flares; I might have a couple of boxes of several types left.

This type is never to be tried with “regular” or shotgun ammunition – these flare guns were designed only for shooting low-pressure flare cartridges only and are likely going to disintegrate if tried with modern ammo; that would illegal as well.  This original Germany pre-WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol / flare gun is not a “firearm” under US law and needs no FFL to transfer or own; this WW-2 era flare gun is obsolete; its spare parts are no longer made.

I have a few more WW1 and WW2 era flare guns coming up for sale, plus several scarce WW2 fighting daggers and WW1 trench knives available for sale immediately – please take a look in our Militaria section.  This rare Germany pre-WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. This original Germany pre-WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol will be a great addition to any collection.
