Description

Germany WKS Africa Korps K98 bayonet made in 1937, original metal scabbard, DAK “Africa Korps” tropical web frog. Rare pre-WW2 type in great overall condition, considering the age.

Scarce pre-WW2 manufacture German bayonet for “Karabiner 98K” Mauser bolt-action rifle – made in 1937 by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie (WKC) in Solingen. WKS has been making edged weapons for centuries and by 1880s it was one of the largest edged weapon manufacturers in the German Empire. WKS has always made excellent quality products; their experience and expertise are certainly showing through the excellent quality of this bayonet.

This is the scarce Deutsche Afrika Korps (DAK) – German Afrika Korps issued bayonet with original DAK web frog & metal scabbard. DAK troops in the North Africa theater of operations were issued frogs made of web fabric because the leather would simply rot and fall apart in the hot, dry desert climate. All DAK issued gear is VERY hard-to-find nowadays, especially in such a good condition.

The bayonet is only slightly used; the original blunt factory edge has not been re-sharpened. The blade retained 95% of its original gun-blue finish; the tip is slightly bent. This bayonet is about 15” / 38 cm overall; the blade is about 9-3/4″ / 24.8 cm long. Original and correct for pre-war manufacture wood grips are in very good overall condition with no cracks or chips; some typical scratches from the field use are noted for accuracy. Ricasso is stamped W.K.C. / SOLINGEN on one side and the production series number 7615 / a on the other. Bayonet release button is in perfect working order. The top plate, the guard, and the release button are stamped with the old, “Imperial eagle” type proof stamp. Additional Waffenamt stamps on the bayonet’s butt look like WaA253; scabbard’s tip is stamped with what looks like number WaA37.

The bayonet comes with the original Gebrüder Heller steel scabbard stamped 549 on the throat’s front and GEBR. HELLER on the back. Tropical web frog is maker-stamped on the back as well, but I just can’t make out the name.

Almost 90 years later, this Germany WKS Africa Korps K98 bayonet and its original scabbard and frog are in 100% serviceable condition still. These original pre-war specimens are scarce this nice and complete. Don’t miss your chance to add this rare Germany WKS Africa Korps K98 bayonet to your collection!
