Germany WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol made by J. G. Anschutz. Scarce original WW-I era flare gun type in very good overall condition, considering the age.
Original Imperial Germany WW1 era M1894 Hibel model signal pistol manufactured by J. G. Anschütz (JGA) in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, Germany. The M1894 Hebel was a major improvement over older flare gun designs and was adapted by the German Empire as a standard-issue signal pistol for the army. It is by no means a compact signaling device: his signal pistol is about 12-1/2 inches / 32 cm long; the barrel is about 6-1/8 inches / 15.5 cm; it weights about 3 pounds / 1.37 kg.
This signal pistol has two serial numbers: SN 5226 is stamped on the side plate below the chamber; SN 5263 is stamped on interior sides of both wood handle grips. All metal parts were re-plated with shiny white chrome (not the original finish). The action is crisp; this specimen is in very good overall condition. No dents on the barrel or the frame; the bore is clean with no rust or pitting. The spur has a little bit of a play; the trigger assembly is tight. Original lanyard ring and wood grips are intact. Both grips are original but have been re-varnished; a couple of minor contact marks are noted for accuracy. These are the actual photos; Cold War era 26.5mm aluminum casings pictured were used as photo props and will not be included with the lot. Please contact me if you are interested in the Czech-made Cold era 26.5mm flares; I might have a couple of boxes of several types left.
This type is never to be tried with “regular” or shotgun ammunition – these flare guns were designed only for shooting low-pressure flare cartridges only and are likely going to disintegrate if tried with modern ammo; that would illegal as well. This scarce Germany WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol has not been cleaned or tempered with; scarce in such authentic condition. This original WW-I era Germany WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol will be a great addition to any collection.
This original Germany WW1 M1894 Hebel signal pistol / flare gun is not a “firearm” under US law and needs no FFL to transfer or own; this WW-2 era flare gun is obsolete; its spare parts are no longer made.
