WW2 British RAF aircraft dinghy knife with cork grip handle and original lanyard still attached. Scarce WW-II era aircrew survival equipment in rare UNUSED condition.
Original World War 2 era British Royal Air Force survival knife in scarce unused condition – this type was packed in RAF aircraft dinghies. Similar to the war-time American “rescue/survival knife” but much larger and with a cork-grip handle so it would float. Not a super-rare military knife but this type is actually pretty scarce in original unused condition. This exact type is illustrated on pages 96-97 of the excellent reference book BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES by Ron Flook (see the book’s pages scans attached).
The knife is unmarked except for the British nomenclature (store) number 27C/2023 on the blade; number 27C indicates RAF survival equipment. The knife looks pretty awkward but it is actually very useful and practical for the what it was designed for. These survival knives were used to cut away clothing and gear from wounded servicemen, among many other tasks it was intended for; curved blade with a blunt tip was designed to prevent accidental injuries or raft punctures while cutting.
The knife is about 9-3/4″ / 24.7 cm overall; the blade is about 4-1/2″ / 11.5 cm long. Bright orange cork handle still has a factory-attached lanyard; there is no sheath. The handle is solid; all parts are tight. This WW2 British RAF aircraft dinghy survival knife “life raft knife” is in great overall condition, considering the age; you will not be disappointed!
This scarce WW2 British RAF aircraft dinghy survival knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, the set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife I have a few vintage Sheffield-made knives, as well as WW2 era British combat knives and bayonets, scarce American and German WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
