WW2 era American fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado. This is the ever-popular WW2 era “Shark” model fighting knife, but a more scarce Type 2 with a more practical heavy-duty round steel pommel and iron guard. This exact type is illustrated on page 233 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons.
A well-balanced blued fullered blade is about 6″ / 15.3 cm; the knife is about 10-1/4” / 26 cm overall. The edge is razor-sharp still, the tip is intact; about 60 to 70% of the original blade blueing is remaining . Stacked leather washers handle with black and red fiber spacers at the ends, solid steel guard and hammer-like round iron pommel. The handle is tight with no play, all parts are solid; leather washers are in near-excellent condition. Original leather scabbard in great shape, considering the age. The keeper is nice and tight; original stitching and rivets are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. A rectangular symbol scratched on the front panel is noted for accuracy. Number 0399 is stamped on the belt hanger; the same number is written on the back.
This WW2 Western G46-6 Shark fighting knife Type 2 is rare in good condition these days – most these “Shark” fighting knives were used as intended during the war and relatively few specimens survived to this day in good condition. This specimen is in great overall condition, considering the age; you will not be disappointed!
This attractive WW2 Western G46-6 Shark fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot.
