WW1 British Royal Navy midshipmans dirk made by Gieve Matthews & Seagrove Ltd. Original  #14 scabbard initialed CJB on the throat; the set is great overall condition, considering the age.

A scarce WW1 era British Royal Navy officer’s naval dirk  in great overall condition with the original-issue officer-initialed scabbard included. The dirk is about 23-3/4” / 60.2 cm overall; highly-decorated blade is about 18” / 45.7 cm; factory-original blunt edge, the tip is intact. A few with minor edge nicks on the blade are noted for accuracy.  Both sides of the blade are etched with with floral patters, anchor & rope, and George V royal insignia; the etching is nice and crisp; no rust on the blade. Ricasso is etched GIEVE MATTHES & SEAGOVE Ltd. / LONDON PORTSMOUTH & DEVONPORT.

The sword in the scabbard is about 23-7/8″ / 60.7 cm overall. Original cast bronze lion’s head and rayskin handle with the “royal oak acorn” bronze double-guard; the guard has a tiny bit of a play; rayskin is intact with no damage; great overall condition, considering the age. The original leather-and-brass scabbard in in great shape as well; all parts are tight. The throat is engraved with the officer’s initials CJB; the scabbards’ mouth and the tip are stamped with number 14 – this specimen was one of the very few that were actually in service.  This WW1 British Royal Navy midshipmans dirk and original scabbard set is in great shape overall, considering the age; this type is hard to find this nice nowadays.

This original WW1 British Royal Navy midshipmans dirk has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition.
