WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife, short-lived 1st model “nut pommel” type, blued blade, early original all-leather U.S.N.-marked scabbard. Rare early MKII type in very good condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era rare 1st model of the famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured early in the war by Camillus Cutlery in Camillus, New York. MK2 is a classic American WW2 era fighting knife; this type was used in combat by the US Army and the Navy men alike in all theaters of the War. This is a hard-to-find early CAMILLUS “treaded lug nut” pommel MK2 – these were manufactured for a short time in limited quantities. The “treaded nut” pommel design has proved to fail under stress and was quickly discontinued. This scarce fighting knife is in mega rare unused condition.
Ricasso is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. on one side, U.S.N. on the other; the guard is unmarked, as it should be for this type. Leather washers “fat handle” with heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 12″ / 30.3 cm overall; blued blade is about 7″ /17.8 cm. The blade has about 90% of its original deep gun-blued finish remaining; the edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Original early WW2 issue all-leather USN-marked scabbard is in fare shape, considering the age. Original keeper with is a little dry but intact; one of brass snaps is missing a small part of it on the interior side. The rivets are rusted from the exposure to the elements but still hold; original stitching is intact. The leather is a bit dry but overall this scabbard is in fare condition. This rare first model “nut pommel” WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife and original scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition, nearly 80 years after it was made.
During the war most of MK2s were used in the field as intended; these early MK2s are VERY hard to find. This attractive WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos.
