A scarce original late WW2 production German LUFTWAFFEN-KAMPFMESSER German Air Force fighting knife with original-issue metal “boot carry” scabbard included. The dagger is in great overall condition, considering the age. This Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. This is the late-war production specimen with the scarce “S” inspection mark on ricasso – these “S” stamps were reportedly used by the civilian workers of the Lufwaffe Armament Office in the last few months of the war; a rare type. The LUFTWAFFEN-KAMPFMESSER model is illustrated on pages 246-247, as well as in the center of the title page of the excellent French reference book Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 by Christian Mary (see the book’s scans attached).
This fighting knife is about 11” / 28 cm overall; the blade is about 6-1/2” / 16.5 cm long. The blade is stamped with Luftwaffe’s rare late-war “S” inspection mark on ricasso. The blade in in great shape overall with no surface rust, pitting, or edge nicks; the blade has been lightly re-sharpened and is razor-sharp still. Original hardwood handle scales are in great shape with no typical nicks or chips; iron guard and pins are original; all parts are tight with no play. Original metal scabbard with the classic “leaf spring” for boot carry is in excellent shape with about 90% of the original black finish remaining.
Almost 80 years later this rare late-war production Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. Nowadays, this type is hard-to-find in general and almost impossible this nice and complete. Most of these Luftwaffen-Kampfmessers boot knives were used in the field as intended; specimens in better grades are hard to find nowadays. This Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife will be a great addition to any collection. This attractive original WW2 Germany Luftwaffe fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition.
