Description
Original early Vietnam War era M6 bayonet that was specifically design for M14 battle rifle. This unused M6 specimen was manufactured by Imperial Knife Co. in Providence, RI. The M6 was the only edged weapon issued for the M14. In spite of excellent accuracy and ballistics, the M14 fell victim to the modern small-caliber small arms doctrine and had a very short service life as an infantry battle rifle. That led to the short-lived service for the M6 bayonet as well. This type is scarce nowadays, especially in top grade. Attached in the photos is the scan of the original 1965 photograph by Eddie Adams of a young marine in Vietnam holding the M14 with the M6 attached.
The guard/muzzle ring is marked U.S. M6 / IMPERIAL; no markings on the blade or handle, as intended. About 11-3/8″ / 29 cm overall; parkerized blade is about 6-5/8″ / 17 cm long. Original factory edge is razor-sharp; the edge has not been re-sharpened; the tip is intact. Black plastic grips are in excellent condition; the release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional. Original early 1960s Colt-made injection-molded M8A1 composition scabbard is also in excellent unused condition. This M6 set is in excellent overall condition; this early Vietnam War bayonet type is hard to find this nice as most were used as intended. This original Vietnam War Imperial M6 bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. It’s in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
