Description

WW2 Utica M3 fighting knife, scarce early blade-marked type, original M8 scabbard signed NIELSEN. Scarce early-issue American trench knife, great condition, considering the age.

Original WW-II era blade-marked M3 Trench Knife manufactured by Utica Cutlery Co. The M3 production had ended in August 1944, but only the early M3 specimens were blade-marked. Out of the total of 2.5 million M3s made, Utica Cut. produced about 650,000 M3s of all types. See the WW2 era M3 Trench Knife in the European theater photo (for reference only; not included with the lot). This fighting knife is used, but it’s in better-than-average condition for the type.

This is an early blade-marked specimen with blued blade and 8-groved stacked leather washer handle; the knife is in great overall condition. The knife is about 11-1/2” / 29.3 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17 cm. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Stacked leather washers handle is tight; original iron guard and hammer-like pommel marked with a “flaming ball” arsenal acceptance mark. The handle is solid; the guard has a bit of a play.

Original M8composition scabbard was manufactured by Beckwith Manufacturing Company – a division of Victory Plastics. All original parts are intact; top plate underside is marked B 1/1 N; original leather leg tight is still attached. The back panel is GI-signed NIELSON in large block letters. Overall, this WW2 Utica M3 fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition; this type is getting harder to find every year.
