Description

Israel Mk1A Mauser bayonet for K98 rifle; very 1st domestic production dated 1949, matching original metal scabbard. Scarce type in great condition, considering the age.

The Mk1A was the very first domestically-manufactured bayonet Israel produced for it’s fledging army. The Mk1a looks similar to original WW2 era German-made bayonets for Mauser K98 except for the added muzzle ring and a heavier, somewhat roughly-finished blade.

The initial production was kicked off during the Arab-Israel war; a relatively small number was produced, not many survived. Bayonet’s ricasso and scabbard’s throat are marked with identical markings in Hebrew which translate to Bayonet Mk. 1A / Manufacturer / 101.1949. The bayonet and scabbard are marked with the Star of David and the government’s property mark. This bayonet is about 14-3/4″ / 37.5 cm overall;  blued blade is about 9-1/2” / 24 cm; the edge is factory semi-blunt, the tip is intact. This Mk1A bayonet was manufactured  in 1949; the pommel is punched with the serial number 22536. Original black plastic handle grips are in great overall condition considering the age – no cracks or chips; all parts are tight with no play; bayonet release mechanism is 100% functional. Original metal scabbard with matching production markings was also made in 1949. The scabbard is in very good shape for the type; original finish throughout; a couple of minor contact marks near the tip are noted for accuracy; there is no frog.

This scarce Israel Mk1A Mauser bayonet will make a great addition to any collection. The bayonet not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
