Vietnam War Gen Cut M1917 trench gun bayonet made in the 1960th by General Cutlery in Fremont, OH; original  VZM composition scabbard, still in original 1969 packing sleeve. UNUSED condition; rare this nice and complete.

Scarce Vietnam War era US M1917 “trench gun” bayonet issued for the US military 12-gauge pump-action trench guns.  The bayonet and the original US-M1917 VZM-marked composition scabbard are in rare unused condition; still in its original 1969/1970-dated anti-corrosion packing sleeve. This type is VERY hard-to-find this nice and complete. The M1917 originated in the WW1 era; interestingly enough this type was also used in combat in WW2, as well as during the Korean and Vietnam War. More information on this rare bayonet type could be found here, courtesy of Wikipedia.

This rare M1917 specimen was manufactured circa 1966-1967 by General Cutlery in Fremont, Ohio (stamped GEN CUT on the guard), under the government contract – DOD “spread eagle” acceptance stamp on the guard. This is a high-quality manufacture bayonet with crisp blade lines and excellent dark-gray parkerized finish throughout; the blade is very sharp with an original factory edge; needle-like tip is intact. A couple of minor surface rust spots on the edge are noted for accuracy. Black plastic handle grips are perfect with no chips or cracks. All handle parts are tight; the pommel is intact and problem-free; bayonet release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional. The bayonet is about 21-1/2″ / 54.5 cm overall; the blade is about 16-3/4″ / 42.3 cm long. Original composition scabbard is marked VZM on the throat. The scabbard is in excellent overall condition. This original Vietnam War Gen Cut M1917 trench gun bayonet and its correct original VZM scabbard are in near-perfect condition. A desirable and highly collectible type; VERY rare this nice and complete.
