Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife LUFTWAFFEN-KAMPFMESSER dagger, original “leaf spring” boot-carry metal scabbard; ecxellent overall condition, considering the age.
A scarce original WW2 era German LUFTWAFFEN-KAMPFMESSER German Air Force fighting knife with original-issue metal “boot carry” scabbard included. The dagger is in excellent overall condition; this Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. This exact type is illustrated on pages 246-247, as well as in the center of the title page of the excellent French reference book Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 by Christian Mary (see the book’s scans attached).
This fighting knife is about 11-1/8” / 28.2 cm overall; the blade is about 6-5/8” / 17 cm long. The blade is stamped with Luftwaffe’s rare late-war “eagle 6” proof mark on ricasso. The blade in in great shape overall with a few light pitting spots due to improper storage. The blade is razor-sharp still; no edge nicks or dings on the spine; original needle-like tip is intact. Original hardwood handle scales are in great shape with no typical nicks or chips; iron guard and pins are original; all parts are tight with no play. Original metal scabbard with the classic “leaf spring” for boot carry is in excellent shape with over 95% of the original black finish remaining.
Almost 80 years later this original Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. Nowadays, this type is hard-to-find in general and almost impossible this nice and complete. Most of these Luftwaffen-Kampfmessers boot knives were used in the field as intended; specimens in better grades are hard to find nowadays. This Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife will be a great addition to any collection.
