Description
Germany WW2 Alexander Coppel K98 bayonet, matching serials original metal scabbard, leather frog included. Scarce 1944 dated “matching” type in great condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era German bayonet for “Karabiner 98K” Mauser bolt-action rifle. Manufactured in 1944 by the well-known German manufacturer Alexander Coppel GmbH – the bayonet is marked 44 fnj on ricasso with matching serial and maker’s code on the scabbard’s throat. This is one of the scarce high-quality late-war production specimens – the overall quality of most bayonets has sharply deteriorated as Germany was getting closer to was loosing the war. Alexander Coppel had always made an excellent quality product, and it definitely shows in the overall quality of this bayonet.
The bayonet is only slightly used; it is in better-than-average condition for the pre-war manufacture type. A number of contact marks on the pommel and handle’s cover plate are noted for accuracy. Blued blade has not been re-sharpened; original factory edge is very sharp; the tip is intact. The blade has retained about 95% of its original bluing – this late war type is rare this nice. Ricasso is sharply stamped 44 fnj on one side and serial number 8407 / c on the other. The bayonet is about 15-1/8” / 38.4 cm overall; the blade is about 9-7/8″ / 25 cm long. Original dark-brown Bakelite grips are near-excellent with no cracks or chips. The bayonet’s release button is in perfect working order. The Waffenamt stamp on the bayonet’s release button is WaA519; scabbard’s tip is also stamped WaA519.
The bayonet comes with original steel scabbard stamped on the throat 44 fnj on one side and serial number 8407 / c on the other. The front part has a few dents; light surface rust throughout but no pitting. Original leather frog with the keeper intact; the leather is soft but a bit dry. There is a manufacturer’s stamp on the belt hanger but I can’t read it. After 80+ years, this World War II era Germany WW2 Alexander Coppel K98 bayonet and its matching serials scabbard set is in 100% serviceable condition still. Don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
