American WW-II era “Quartermaster” fighting knife with original leather scabbard is included. Manufactured by Case & Sons Cutlery Company; this is CASE XX model 337-6″Q (6″-inch blade, Quartermaster). These heavy-duty fighting/utility knives were a “Cadillac version” of the standard-issue Quartermaster knife. The vast majority of these Quartermasters were made by Cattaraugus Cutlery; Case’s share was relatively small – a nice find! The Quartermaster was modeled as a heavy utility knife designed to open ammo boxes, cargo crates and hammer down nails if needed. Quartermasters were very popular with the troops and saw action in every major World War 2 theater. This exact type is illustrated on page 88 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).

Most of the Quartermasters were used as intended – working on the ships and in the battlefields; leather washers in handles were prone to rot when exposed to the saltwater so many of the surviving specimens are in pretty rough shape. This knife is in very good overall condition – intact handle, no edge nicks or dings; some pitting on one side of the blade is noted for accuracy. The blade has been lightly re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Ricasso is stamped CASE XX on one side, 337-6″Q on the other. “Grooved” stacked leather washers handle with steel handguard heavy-duty hammer-like pommel; all parts are tight with no play;. The knife is about 10-3/4″ / 27.3 cm overall; the blade is about 6″ / 15.2 cm. Original brown leather scabbard is in great shape, considering the age. The leather is soft and supple; the original keeper and rivets are intact; some minor stitching loss at the tip is noted for accuracy. Overall, this original WW2 CASE XX 337-6Q Quartermaster Knife is in great overall condition; a must-have for any serious early CASE collector.

This attractive WW2 CASE XX 337-6Q Quartermaster Knife and its hard-to-find original leather scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, this set is in original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos.
