This is the “guard-marked” type with a plain unmarked ricasso. The guard is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. and U.S.N. / MARK 2 on the guard’s top side. The knife is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; blued blade is about 7″ / 17.8 cm. The blade has not been re-sharpened; original factory edge is razor-sharp. No contact marks on the spine or the edge, the tip is intact. Stacked leather washers handle with a heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are perfectly tight with no play. The pommel is excellent with no typical ding marks; the guard is solid with no play. Leather washers are nice and tight with no damage.
Original “navy-gray” NORD composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing (B.M. Co.). The numbers on the back of the throat indicate delivery date to the Navy as March 1945. The scabbard is in excellent overall condition with all of the original “navy gray” finish intact; no stains on the webbing; original keeper is intact. Over 90 years later this MK2 and original scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition still.
