WW2 Camillus USN MK2 fighting knife, blued blade/guard-marked type, original 07/1944 manufacture NORD composition scabbard. Very good overall condition, considering the age; 100% serviceable still.
Original WW2 era famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured by Camillus Cutlery out of Camillus, NY. I have the same type USN Mark 2 specimen but in rare UNUSED condition available for sale. Please take a look – this MK2 type is rare in “as-made” condition as most were used in the field as intended.
This is the “guard-marked” type with a plain unmarked ricasso. The guard is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. and U.S.N. / MARK 2 on the top side. The knife is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; blued blade is about 7″ / 17.8 cm. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; no contact marks on the spine or edge nicks, the tip is intact. Leather washers handle with a heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are perfectly tight with no play. The pommel is excellent with no typical ding marks; the guard is solid with no play. Leather washers are nice and tight with no damage.
Original “navy-gray” NORD composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing (B.M. Co.). The numbers on the back of the throat indicate delivery date to the Navy as July 1944 – part of the the very first batch of the “new type” composition scabbard replacing the “old type” all-leather sheaths. The scabbard is in great overall condition with most of the original “navy gray” finish intact; no stains on the webbing; original keeper is intact. Almost 80 years later, this scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still. This WWII classic WW2 Camillus USN MK2 fighting knife will be a great addition to any collection. This attractive WW2 Camillus USN MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition.
