Description

WW2 Case XX USAF Survival Machete, scarce non-folding type, original blade protector included. Rare UNUSED condition – hard to find this nice and complete.

Original World War-2 era Survival Machete issued to the US Air Force and Navy pilots. These large handy machetes were usually carried in the M-592 survival pack attached to the pilot’s parachute harness. Most of these machetes were folding types; fixed-blade survival machetes are scarce. Regardless of the original intent, these machetes were very popular with the American GI’s and saw lots of auction in the Pacific theater of the War. This particular type is illustrated on pages 69 in U.S. MILITARY KNIVES; BOOK TWO published in 1973 by M. H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s scans attached).

This survival machete was manufactured by CASE CUTLERY, one of the oldest US cutlery manufacturers in continues operation. Scarce unused condition with original factory edge and over 95% of the original bluing remaining, original factory edge is razor-sharp; original metal safety cover is included (most of these covers had a tendency to get lost right away). The handle is in near-mint condition with just a couple of light rust spots (cleanable); one rust spot at ricasso is noted for accuracy. Original walnut grips are tight with no play whatsoever; leather lanyard is still attached. This machete is about 15-1/4″ / 38.8 cm overall; the blade is about 10″ / 25.5 cm long. The blade is sharply stamped CASE XX on the side; original bluing remains bright with no blemishes; scarce this nice.

This original WW2 Case XX USAF Survival Machete has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
