Description
WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife, scarce 1st model “nut pommel” type, early original all-leather USN scabbard. Rare GI-signed and ID’d early Mark II in great condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era rare 1st model of the famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured early in the war by Camillus Cutlery in Camillus, New York. MK2 is a classic American WW2 era fighting knife; this type was used in combat by the US Army and the Navy men alike in all theaters of the War. This is extremely hard to find early CAMILLUS “treaded lug nut” pommel MK2 – these were manufactured for a VERY short time in limited quantities. The “treaded nut” pommel design has proved to fail under stress and was quickly discontinued. This scarce fighting knife is in mega rare unused condition.
Ricasso is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. on one side, U.S.N. on the other; the guard is unmarked, as it should be for this type. Leather washers “fat handle” with heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are tight with no play. Handle’s leather washers and the scabbard are stamped with the GI’s last name SLOMAN in large bold font. As per the previous owner, this MK2 belonged to Henry “Bill” Sloman Jr. (1926-2010), who enlisted in 1944 and served till he was WIA in March 1945. The knife is about 12″ / 30.3 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-3/4″ /17.2 cm. The blade still has most of its original deep gun-blued finish; the edge has been lightly re-sharpened and it’s razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Rare early WW2 issue all-leather USN-marked scabbard is in great shape, considering the age. Original keeper with brass snaps is intact; all original rivets and stitching are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. Overall, this scabbard is in better-than-average condition – these early scabbards are hard-to-find in general and are very rare this nice as most have salt water damage. This rare first model “nut pommel” WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife and original scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition, nearly 80 years after it was made.
During the war most of MK2s were used in the field as intended; these early MK2s are VERY hard to find – a rare find and a great addition to any collection. This early MK2 set is in excellent overall condition and rare as such nowadays – today most of the surviving 1st model “nut pommel” MK2 fighting knives are in private collections & rarely come up for sale. This attractive WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos.
