Description
Rare early Vietnam War era 6-inch Jet Pilot Knife with original scabbard & honing stone included; manufactured in the late 1950th by Camillus Cutlery in Camillus, New York. These original 1st model Jet Pilot Knives with 6-inch blades and undated hexagon pommels for were manufactured for just a couple of years from 1958 to 1959. More information about the legendary American Jet Pilot Knives – aka the “aircrew survival knife” could be found on this dedicated Wikipedia page. These survival knives were issued to USAF pilots, but many were used by GIs on the ground as well – see a reference photo of one Vietnam War era SOF operator with the 6-inch blade Jet Pilot knife on his belt (the photo is for reference only and will not be included with the lot).
The knife is about 10-3/8″ / 26.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6″ /15.1 cm; the edge is very sharp still; the tip is intact. The saw teeth on the blade’s spine are intact as well; no dings or edge nicks; some light surface rust is noted for accuracy. Ricasso is sharply marked CAMILLUS / N.Y. on one side. Stacked leather washers handle with iron guard and hammer-like pommel. The guard has a tiny bit of a play; the rest of the handle is solid; all parts are tight. Original early “Marble’s style” all-leather scabbard with the honing stone in the pocket is used but it’s in 100% usable condition still. The keeper and all original rivers/stitching are intact. Original CORBORUNDUM honing stone in the front pocket in slightly used but it is in great overall condition with no damage. In spite of the age this scabbard is in excellent overall condition, considering the age – the leather is soft and supple still; all original rivets are intact. This early “long blade type” Vietnam War Camillus Jet Pilot Knife will make an excellent addition to any collection of military blades.
This attractive early Vietnam War Camillus Jet Pilot Knife with original all-leather scabbard has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. I have a few more Vietnam War era knives and bayonets, as well as some American, British, Commonwealth, and German WW2 era combat knives and bayonets and several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers / trench knives – please take a look in the Militaria section.
