Exceedingly hard-to-find original WW2 era USMC Raiders Stiletto fighting dagger made in the US by Camillus Cutlery. Included with the stiletto is the original WW2 issue “long type” Case V42 scabbard (Case XX produced only 3,400 V42s daggers during the war). Camillus manufactured just 14,370 stilettos in 1942, of which several thousand were parkerized and delivered to the Canadian Airborne troops. This exact dagger type is illustrated on pages 86-87 in the book KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II by Michael W Silvey and on pages 222-223 of THE FAIRBAIRN-SYKES FIGHTING KNIFE AND OTHER COMMANDO KNIVES book by Ron Flook, M.H. Cole books – all are well-established experts and authors of many books about US military edged weapons (see the books scans attached).
The USMC Raiders Stiletto was designed by Lt. Col. Clifford H. Shuey. The overall configuration was loosely based on the original British Fairbairn-Sykes commando dagger. But unlike the original FS design, the USMC Raiders Stiletto has a slightly thinner and shorter blade and cast aluminum-zinc ally handles. The aluminum-zinc ally was chosen mainly as an inexpensive alternative to bronze, which was deemed an essential material used in more critical war-time areas such as armaments production, maritime use, etc. The aluminum-zinc alloy was cheap, but it proved to be unstable with many handles simply falling apart over the years. This specimen has its nickel-plated handle intact and is rare as such.
This dagger is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; the blade is about 7″ / 17.8 cm long. Original etching on the blade has been mostly polished away; a few small areas of the original banner etching on the blade and CAMILLUS CUTLERY name on ricasso are still visible. All parts are solid with no play, blade’s edges are intact with no nicks or edge bumps, the tip is intact – this type is rare this nice. “Knurled” cast aluminum-zinc handle with integral guard is intact; no dings or contact marks on the pommel or the guard. Looks like the entire handle has been nickel-plated. which prevented it’s oxidation and eventual deterioration.
Original WW2 era “long” scabbard with protective staples on the throat was originally issued with V42 dagger made by Case XX. V42s were mainly issued to the First Special Forces Force; this is an extremely hard-to-find type as only 3,400 V42s were manufactured in the first place. The scabbard is in great shape overall, considering the age almost all parts are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. Original keeper is MIA but it could be replaced. This rare WW2 USMC Raiders stiletto dagger and its equally rare V42 scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care this old timer will last you another 85 years 😉
Don’t miss your chance to add this mega rare original WW2 USMC Raiders stiletto dagger to your collection! This rare original WW-II era WW2 USMC Raiders stiletto dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
