This gold Chervonets (10 Roubles) was struck at the St. Petersburg mint in 1903. The coin is about 8.6 grams, about 23 mm in diameter; inscription with mint master’s Alexander Redko initials (A.P) on the rim. Scarce AU condition with some original mint luster remaining; a few typical bag marks and light wear on elevated surfaces are noted for accuracy.
Better mintage year – a bit over 2 million were stuck in 1903. This is a comparatively small number for Russia at the time. Add periodical mass meltings of gold coins of any kind during the two World Wars, the Russian Civil War, and a repressive Soviet regime, and it becomes apparent why the Imperial Russian coins are so hard to find in any condition these days. A number of the surviving specimens of any given year is probably less than 1/10 of their original mintages.
