Russia 1904 gold 5 Roubles (SPB-AR), Nicholas II era scarce smaller mintage year. Nicely toned mint state specimen with original luster; NGC graded MS63. FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM
Scarce Mint State gold 5 Roubles specimen struck in 1904 – a better year. The coin is about 4.3 grams, about 18.5 mm in diameter; “square rope” pattern with mint master’s initials AP on the rim; St. Petersburg mint. Scarce MS63 condition with original mint luster; this type is scarce this nice. A relatively smaller mintage year – 2 million were stuck in 1904 – which was actually a comparatively small number for Russia at the time. Add periodical mass melting of gold coins of any kind during the two World Wars, the Russian Civil War, and a repressive Soviet regime, and it becomes apparent why the Imperial Russian coins are so hard to find in any condition these days. A number of the surviving specimens of any given year is probably less than 1/10 of their original mintages.
