Description

Germany WW2 WEHR utility knife made by Friedrich Herder Abr. Sohn in Solingen. Hard-to-find type in very good overall condition, considering the age.

Rare WW2 era German utility knife issued to the German Armed Forces  (Wehrmacht) and the RAD – Reich Labour Service (Reichsarbeitsdienst) units alike. This specimen has an early pre-war fully-marked blade; the knife was made by Friedrich Herder Abr. Sohn – one of Germany’s best cutlery makers in continues business since 1727.  The large wood handle has a simple but very effective side blade lock; high-carbon drop-point retractable blade is marked Friedr. Herder Abr. Sohn / Solingen – Germany / Don Carlos on one side.  The knife’s handle is about 6-1/8″ / 15.5 cm;  the blade fully extended is about 5” / 12.7 cm. old collection inventory sticker (what’s left of it) is taped to the blade – the tape could be easily removed if you wish to do so. The blade has been re-sharpened but the edge is very sharp still; the tip is a bit rounded.

One-piece wood handle with a simple blade locking metal linear lock; brass collar securely holds the retractable blade in place.  The handle is intact; one minor crack on one side near the brass collar is noted for accuracy. This is a simple, but a very practical knife. A seldom seen type as it wasn’t a particularly desirable trophy or a collectable item after the war; about 5 years ago I sold a similar type; haven’t seen another one since. Most of these utility knives were used as intended; this type is VERY hard to find these days, especially with the brittle thin blade intact.

This rare Germany WW2 WEHR 1940 utility knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot. We have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
