Scarce circa 1890th concealed-carry lady’s “garter dagger” with dual-edge stiletto blade, genuine stag/German silver fittings handle, and original leather sheath. Used condition, but in great shape overall, considering the age. Made by the famous Joseph Allen & Sons in Sheffield, England. Sheffield-made knives always played a huge part in American history. From the Gold Rushes in California and Yukon to the battles the Civil War and in the frontier – Sheffield Bowies and daggers were hugely popular in every corner of the United States. This exact type is illustrated in the 1905 issue of American DIAMOND EDGE mail-in catalog – the knife is listed as “Best quality English steel blade” dirk (see the page’s scan attached; the ad is not included with the knife).
No damage to the blade or the handle; spear-point blade is very sharp still; the tip is intact; a few minor surface rust spots are noted for accuracy. No cracks on the stag; all handle parts are solid. Ricasso is stamped NON•XLL / JOSEPH / ALLEN & SONS / SHEFFIELD / ENGLAND on one side. The dagger is about 8-5/8″ / 22 cm overall; the blade is about 4-1/2″ / 11.5 cm long. Genuine European stag handle with German silver handguard, collar band, and a butt plate. All parts are tight with no play. Original leather sheath is in pretty sorry condition – garter hanger is gone; the tip is damaged; the leather is hard and dry. Hard to find England garter dagger Joseph Allen & Sons stiletto knife in very good overall condition for the type.
This England garter dagger Joseph Allen & Sons “NON XLL” marked blade stiletto and original sheath have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. Don’t miss your chance to add this antique garter dagger to your collection!
