Description
Vintage circa 1998 Cold Steel Magnum Tanto IX (model 13MBIX) 9-inch blade fighting knife made in Seki, Japan for Cold Steel Co. which was based in Ventura, CA. Original early type all-leather sheath with “Velcro type” keeper is included. Magnum Tanto was the only model with the full-size traditional Japanese “tsuba” style handguard and spine chamfering, rather than the usual “flat spine” blade. This is a seriously cool-looking fighter and it appeared in a number of Hollywood movies in the past 25 years. The Magnum Tanto is in rare unused condition; these Japan-made 1990th Tantos are VERY hard-to-find nowadays in better grades.
The knife is about 14-1/2″ / 36.8 cm overall; AUS8A stainless alloy blade is about 9” / 22.8 cm. Original factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact; a few hairline scratched from going in-and-out of sheath are noted for accuracy.
Rubberized diamond-checkered handle with a solid stainless “tsuba” guard and pointed “crusher” pommel. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. Ricasso is acid-etched COLD STEEL INC / VENTURA CALIF. on one side; MADE IN JAPAN on the other. Original JAPAN marked early-style black leather sheath is in great shape; all parts are intact. This Magnum Tanto IX set is in excellent overall condition, considering the age.
