Vintage circa 1998 Cold Steel Magnum Tanto II (model 13MBII) AUS8 core blade fighting knife made in Seki, Japan for Cold Steel Co. Original early type all-leather sheath is included. Magnum Tantos were the only Cold Steel models with the full-size traditional Japanese “tsuba” style handguards. This is a seriously cool-looking fighter and it appeared in a number of Hollywood movies in the past 25 years. The Magnum Tanto II is in rare unused condition; these Japan-made 1990th Tantos are VERY hard-to-find nowadays in better grades.
The knife is about 13″ / 33 cm overall; AUS8A stainless alloy blade is about 7-3/8” / 18.8 cm; the telltale steel alloys lamination line near the age is clearly visible. Original factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Rubberized diamond-checkered handle with a solid stainless “tsuba” guard and pointed “crusher” pommel. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play; fancy braded black-n-gray lanyard is still attached. Ricasso is acid-etched COLD STEEL INC / VENTURA CALIF. / MADE IN JAPAN on one side; MAGNUM TANTO II / SAN MAI on the other. Original JAPAN marked early-style black leather sheath is in great shape; all parts are intact. This vintage Cold Steel Japan Magnum Tanto II San Mai fighter & original leather sheath set is in excellent overall condition, considering the age.
