Description

WW2 US trench art letter opener; a unique original historical piece in excellent condition.

Very cool-looking WW2 era presentation letter opener made from a large piece of shell shrapnel that was reworked and intricately decorated on both sides of the blade. Looks like this letter opener was gifted in the Liege region in Belgium to Major Roy W. Lonsinger in 1945. Mr. Lonsinger has served in World War II AND in the Korean War and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (US Army). Lt-Colonel Lonsinger passed away in 1999; his last resting place is Arlington National Cemetery.

The gunsmith-level engraving is simply spectacular; whoever engraved this cool piece was a talented engraver. This unusual and undoubtedly unique letter opener is in excellent overall condition. It is about 7” / 17.8 cm overall; polished blade is about 5″ / 12.7 cm; no edge dings, the tip is intact. This WW2 US trench art letter opener was part of the diverse collection of militaria items that I’ve recently purchased spanning from WW1 to the War in Vietnam. This personal collection contains many interesting items, some are unique, but there is just too much work to list it all at the same time. Please check out my site periodically for new arrivals; I’ll be listing more items in the next few weeks.
