WW2 Ka-Bar USN MK2 fighting knife used during the War in Korea; original NORD composition scabbard signed Val Petersen / 6-6-53 / USS Des Moines CA 134; rare UNUSED condition.
Original WW2 era famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured by Ka-Bar (Union Cutlery) in Olean, NY; this is the classic mid-war guard-marked USN specimen. Original “navy-gray” NORD composition scabbard made in 03/1945 is included. MK2 is the classic American fighting knife; this type was used in combat in all theaters of WW2 and in virtually every war thereafter. This Mark 2 is about 12-1/8″ / 30.6 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm; the guard is sharply struck KA-BAR on one side, USN MK2 on the other. The knife is in rare unused condition; no spine dings or edge nicks the blade or the pommel; parkerized blade is excellent. The blade has not been re-sharpened; original factory edge is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Stacked leather washes and hammer-like round pommel handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play.
Original NORD composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing. Production numbers on the back indicate the very first March 1945 delivery to US Navy. Original “navy-gray” finish on the plastic; no dents, cracks, chips or rust on the webbing; the tip is intact; this scabbard is nearly-perfect for the type. What is really interesting about this MK2 set is that it appears to have served in the Korean War as well. The back of the scabbard is hand-scratched Val Petersen / 4607471 / GMB / 6-6-53 / USS Des Moines CA 134 / J.D.7 / MOR 41. USS Des Moines CA 134 was a US Navy heavy cruiser in service from 09/1946 to 07/1961.
This original WW2 Ka-Bar USN MK2 fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still; with proper care it will last another 80 years 😉 This attractive WW2 Ka-Bar USN MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; these are the actual photos; Garands clips are not included with the knife 😉
