WW2 Germany Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife made by E&F Horster. Scarce 100% genuine “Model 42 Infantry Knife” with original metal scabbard. All parts are intact; excellent overall condition, considering the age.
Hard-to-fine original WW2 era German Army Model 42 Infantry Knife (Infanteriemesser 42) fighting dagger – an unmarked specimen manufactured late in the war as the “last-ditch” attempt to supply Wehrmacht troops with a reliable and simple to produce fighting knife. Infanteriemesser 42 is a classic WW2 German boot knife – tough full-tang construction with an integral guard and plain wood handle scales. Original metal scabbard has a simple metal belt hanger. This exact type is illustrated on pages 212-216 of the excellent French reference book by Christian Mary Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 (see the book’s page scans attached).
This fighting knife is excellent condition – only slightly used; no pitting, contact marks on the pommel, dings or nicks on the blade; the tip is intact. This fighter is is about 10-1/4” / 26 cm overall; the blade is about 5-3/4” / 14.5 cm. The edge is razor-sharp still; no damage to the tip; this tape is VERY rare this nice. Original wood handle scales on 3 iron pins are nice and tight; all parts are solid with no play. Original metal scabbard is in great condition overall; about 50% of the original black finish remaining.
Almost 80 years later this original WW2 Germany Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still – this type is VERY hard to find this nice and complete. In general, most of Infanteriemessers were used in the field as intended; specimens in better grades are hard to find nowadays – this WW2 Germany Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife will be a great addition to any collection. Today most of the surviving WW2 era Infanteriemesser 42 knives are in private collections & rarely come up for sale – don’t miss your chance!
