Classic early WW2 era British Fairbairn-Sykes fighting dagger with blued dual-edge blade and original metal-tipped leather scabbard. This is Fairbairn-Sykes 2nd pattern dagger manufactured early in the war. This rare 2nd pattern type is referred to as “Beaded and Ribbed” due it its fancy bronze handle. This short-lived type has been often attributed to William Rodgers Company. This exact  FS dagger type is illustrated on page 128 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scans attached). Originally designed as the “commando dagger” for the elite British special-ops forces, these “FS” fighting knives became super-popular with the British and American servicemen stationed in the UK during the war. Allied servicemen carried FS daggers in practically every combat theater in Europe, North Africa and in the Middle East. Looks like one of the US Army Rangers overlooking a beachhead landing in Algeria is sporting one such British-made FS dagger  – see the photo scan attached (photo is for reference only).

This original WW2 era Fairbairn-Sykes dagger is used, but it is in very good overall condition for the type  as most were used in the field as intended. Fancy cast bronze handle is marked with the British War Department “broad arrow” / 4 inspection stamp near the guard. No dings or contact marks on the grooves, guard, or the pommel – rare this nice.  The underside of the iron guard is sharply stamped ENGLAND on one side; all handle parts are solid with no play. This dagger is about 11-3/8″ / 29 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/8″ / 16.2 cm; about 40% of the original blade bluing remaining; the very end of the tip was probably re-sharpened. Original leather scabbard is in great shape overall, considering the age. Leather side “wings” are MIA, so is the flimsy elastic band – a common condition for the type. The belt hanger part is intact; the top is stamped INGLAND. Original blued metal “flat end” tip in great condition with no play. The throat is intact; no typical cuts or “puncture wounds” – this type is scarce this nice. Don’t miss your chance to add this rare original “Beaded and Ribbed” WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes 2nd pattern dagger to your collection!

This original WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes 2nd pattern dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos; Lee Enfield clips are not included with the lot 😉  I have several original WW2 era Fairbairn-Sykes daggers, fighting knives made from converted sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
