WW2 Dick Shepard theater fighting knife; original hand-made leather scabbard, Statement of Provenance included. Rare type in excellent overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era “theater-made” type American fighting knife expertly made circa 1943-1945 by an American GI Richard Shepard. This knife is part of a small five-piece collection of Richard Shepard knives originally purchased by a Virginia-based militaria dealer in the late 1980th. According to the dealer’s Statement of Provenance which will be included with the knife, Richard (Dick) Shepard was a GI from Connecticut who served in the South Pacific theater of operations from 1943 to 1945 and made these knives while in service. The SOP includes a detailed description of each knife. This listing is for one (1) fighting knife depicted in the 1st photo. Other Dick Shepard fighters are listed in my store as well; feel free to contact me directly if you want to purchase all five as a group (the entire group is pictured on the last photo).

This fighting knife is an unusually well-made example of a “theater” fighter; looks like the blade was made from a piece of high-quality carbon steel such us suspension spring or an industrial saw blade. The overall form is simple but practical with good balance and a decent handle; the lines are well-defined. This is a simple but very handy and practical knife. This knife is in slightly used condition; the blade is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact; no edge nicks or dings on the pommel. Stacked Bakelite washers and aluminum spacers handle with aluminum pommel and wide aluminum guard. The guard is stamped with a small number 2 on the top side; the handle is solid; all pars are tight with no play. The knife is about 10-7/8″ / 27.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-1/2″ / 16.5 cm. Original hand-made “square tip” type leather scabbard is in excellent overall condition, considering the age. The leather is still soft and supple still; all original rivets are intact. This rare, one-of-a-kind WW2 Dick Shepard theater fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still; you will not be disappointed.

This original WW2 Dick Shepard theater fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more WW2 era American, British, and German combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
