Rare vintage Case XX “pig sticker” type fighting dagger with jigged bone handle scales and original GI-signed leather scabbard. Made by W.R. Case Cutlery early in the war in Bradford, Pennsylvania. This type was popular with the American GIs and “pig stickers” were used extensively as fighting knives during WW2.  The early-production “jigged bone handle scales” type is hard-to-find nowadays – Case had ceased the use of strategic metals and time-consuming jigged bone handles pretty quickly during the war; all later “pig stickers” had simple wood handles on iron pins to expedite the wartime production. This type, as well as later-war-time production types are illustrated on pages 94-95 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the page’s photo attached).

This Case XX dagger is about 10-1/4” / 26.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/8″ / 16.2 cm long. Solid full-tang construction with integrated “handguard” and very attractive jigged green bone handle scales with bronze pins. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play; jigged bone scales are near-excellent. The blade is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Original leather scabbard is in excellent overall condition, considering the age. All stitching, rivets and keeper are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. Back panel is GI-signed Pvt William C Harper / 35415489 / H54589. William C Harper (12/20/1916 – 4/11/1995) was enlisted into the Army as a Private and has completed his WW2 service with the rank of a Technical Sergeant, which corresponds with the today’s US Army rank of a Staff Sergeant. Great WW2 era “non-regulation” US fighting knife with a lot of character; you will not be disappointed.

This early-war production WW2 Case XX Pig Sticker fighting dagger type is rare in any shape or form these days; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection! This attractive WW2 Case XX Pig Sticker fighter has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more vintage US-made knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
