Very rare Case XX “private purchase” type fighting dagger with stacked leather washers, curved iron guard, and Bakelite pommel handle and hard-to-find correct original leather scabbard. Made by W.R. Case Cutlery early mid-war in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Although not an official US Army issue, these daggers were very popular with the American GIs and they were used extensively as fighting knives during WW2.  Case had ceased the use of strategic metals such as aluminum and bronze pretty quickly during the war; most mid-war fighters had simple wood or leather handles with  iron/Bakelite fittings to expedite the wartime production. The mid-war production “Bakelite pommel handle” type is hard-to-find nowadays as plastic pommels proved to be just too fragile in the field. This exact fighting dagger type is illustrated on pages 98-98 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s pages scans attached).

This WW2 Case stiletto dagger is about 11-3/8” / 29 cm overall; dual-edge blade is about 7″ / 17.7 cm long; it’s stamped Case on ricasso.  The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play; stacked leather washers and black Bakelite pommel are in great shape as well. The blade is razor-sharp; the tip is intact; pitting on the blade’s both sides is noted for accuracy. Hard-to-find original WW2 issue leather scabbard is in great overall condition, considering the age. The leather is a bit stiff, but all  original stitching, rivets and keeper are intact. This is a rare WW2 era “non-regulation” US fighting knife with a lot of character; you will not be disappointed.

This original “private purchase” type WW2 Case stiletto dagger is rare in any shape or form these days; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection! This attractive WW2 Case stiletto dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more vintage US-made knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
