WW2 Case M3 trench knife – rare straight guard type, early original leather scabbard. Rare M3 fighting knife type in great overall condition, considering the age. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.
Original WW2 era American M3 fighting/trench knife manufactured by Case Cutlery – rare early “straight guard/smooth handle” type in excellent condition. This M3 comes with the original early-issue leather scabbard – this type is rare this nice and complete. This rare type is illustrated on page 44 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see book’s page the scan attached).
This fighting knife is about 11-3/8” / 29 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17 cm; the edge has been lightly re-sharpened and it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. No edge nicks or dings on the spine – this type is rare this nice as most of these trench knives had seen quite a bit of use and abuse in the field. Smooth stacked leather washers handle with a heavy hammer-like oval steel pommel and steel guard; all parts are tight; several leather washers near the pommel are damaged (looks like old moisture damage to me). The guard is sharply stamped CASE on the top side. Brown leather scabbard is great overall condition, considering the age; all original rivets and keeper are intact; the leather is still soft and supple still; some minor stitching loss near the tip is noted for accuracy.
This rare WW2 Case M3 trench knife is in 100% serviceable condition still; this type hard to find in this nice. This important WW2 era American fighting knife would make a great addition to any collection. This scarce M3 fighter has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not is not included with the lot 😉
