Vietnam War SOG fighting knife blade, unfinished fighter. VERY rare War in Vietnam era fighter type in excellent overall condition, considering the age.
Rare Vietnam War era unfinished SOG fighting knife manufactured in the 1960th for selected American military units operating in Vietnam. The Studies and Observation Group (SOG) operatives had a rather unique skill set; their history of their fighting knives is just as secretive as the SOG group itself. Not a lot of these SOG knives were ordered; a lot them handy fighters were lost during the wat; most of the remaining SOG fighters are currently in private collections. This exact type is illustrated on pages 10, 11 of the SOG KNIFE COLLECTOR book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of several books on the subject of military edged weapons. According to Michael Silvey, the initial order of 7-inch blade SOG fighters was for 1300 knives, plus 8 prototypes/samples.
This blade looks used; the blade has not been re-sharpened; the edges are razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. This unfinished knife is about 11-3/4″ / 30 cm overall; the blade is about 7″ / 17.8 cm; it is about 6.4 mm thick at ricasso. The blade has nice original gray patina throughout; a few light surface rust spots on the blade are noted for accuracy. Bronze guard is in excellent condition as well.
This rare Vietnam War SOG fighting knife blade was part of the diverse collection of militaria items that I’ve recently purchased spanning from WW1 to Vietnam War. This personal collection contains many interesting items, some are unique, but there is just too much work to list it all at the same time. Please check out my site periodically for new arrivals; I’ll be listing more items in the next few weeks.
This rare Vietnam War SOG fighting knife blade has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos. I have a few more British, Commonwealth, and American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
