WW1-WW2 Dutch M1915 Stormdolk fighting dagger, blued blade, original serial-numbered leather scabbard. Rare type in excellent overall condition, considering the age.
A scarce WW1 and WW2 era M1915 fighting knife that was manufactured in the Netherlands from 1915 to 1940. The M1915 dagger was known in the Dutch service as the “Stormdolk”; it is often referred to by collectors as “Dutch Commando Knife”. Many Dutch commando operating with the British had chosen to carry Stormdolks, rather than the British -issued Fairbairn-Sykes dagger. When the kingdom was overrun by the Germans M1915 was adopted by the Germans for use by the frontline troops. The Stormdolk was designated by the Germans as the Dolch 115 (h) sidearm – see the German military nomenclature designation page attached (this photo is for reference only, will not be included with the lot). When adopted, the Germans had shortened the extra-large Stormdolk; original unaltered specimens in great condition are scarce.
This specimen is in excellent overall condition with original gun-blue finish mostly intact. This large fighter is about 13-1/4″ / 33.6 cm overall; the blade is about 8-1/8″ / 20.5 cm long. The edge appears to be factory original; it is very sharp still; the tip is intact. These blades were heat-blued during manufacturing; the original bluing is truly striking. Solid turned wood handle with grasping grooves to enhance the grip with a bulbous pommel cap. About 3/16” wide metal ferrule reinforces the front section of the handle, butting up against an oval cross guard. The ferrule and cross guard were heat blued as well. The guard is serial-numbered 4914A on the top; the bottom side is stamped with the Dutch imperial crown/Z acceptance stamp. The dagger comes with the original brown leather covered metal scabbard with a steel ball tip. The scabbard is serialized as well (SN 6302D), with multiple inspector’s acceptance stamps in various places. The scabbard is permanently attached to a leather belt frog via multiple copper rivets; original keeper is intact. The scabbard is in excellent overall condition, considering the age – the leather is soft and supple, all original stitching and rivers are intact. In spite of the advanced age this old-timer is in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care it will serve you another 100 years 😉
These large WW1-WW2 era fighting knives are getting very hard to find nowadays, especially in better grades. This scarce WW1-WW2 Dutch M1915 Stormdolk fighting dagger and its original leather scabbard will be a welcome addition to any collection. This rare and attractive WW1-WW2 Dutch M1915 Stormdolk fighting dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, this set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos.
