Description

West Germany OFW paratrooper knife Cold War era Fallschirmjäger-Messer LL-TRUPPE model (type II) made circa 1970th in Solingen, Germany; rare UNUSED condition.

Original Cold War era West Germany military large LL-TRUPPE model paratrooper knife (Fallschirmjäger-Messer) in rare mint condition – VERY hard to find this nice. This post-WW2 German paratrooper knife was manufactured circa 1961-1979 (Type II) by Otto Forster, Witzhelden (OFW etched on the blade) in Solingen, Germany. I have four (4) identical OFW Fallschirmjäger-Messers available; the listed price is for one (1) knife. This type has been long-discontinued; these “large” Fallschirmjäger-Messer knives are pretty hard to find nowadays, especially in unused condition. The LL-TRUPPE model is a direct descendant of the original WW2 era German paratrooper “take-down” type Fallschirmjäger-Messer knife illustrated in the excellent French reference book Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 by Christian Mary (see the book’s scans attached). The basic construction of both types is the same, it’s just that the later model is made via modern production technologies and with newer and better materials. See the dedicated German gravity knives page , courtesy of Wikipedia.

About 6-1/8″ / 15.5 cm closed; the blade is about 3-7/8″ / 10 cm long; original edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact; the blade is finely etched OFW on one side. Heavy-duty spike with a needle-sharp tip is about 3-1/2” / 9 cm; bolster is a solid die-forged chunk of steel. Handle scales are made of high-impact olive green plastic marked BUND – for Bundeswehr – Cold War era West Germany’s Armed Forces. Original-issue green lanyard is still wrapped around the handle. The knife could be easily taken apart for cleaning and maintenance by pressing on a small steel square below the arrow – steel bolster comes off and you just slide the handle half sideways. Once exposed, the blade can be completely removed by pulling on the blade lock; quite an ingenious design for a military-grade knife.
