Description

WW2 Australian-made USAAF survival machete; original 1944-dated and GI-signed Goldseal, Sydney leather scabbard included. Scarce type in in very good overall condition, considering the age.

Rare WW2 era survival machete / fighting knife manufactured for the US Army Air Force and the Australian military in Sydney, Australia. This exact type is illustrated on page 77 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).

This Australian survival machete is used, but it is in great overall condition – no chips or edge nicks on the blade; the tip is intact. A few ding marks on the spine and contact marks on aluminum handle are noted for accuracy.  A solid aluminum handle is sharply stamped USAAF on one side; the blade is unmarked as intended.  All parts are tight with no play; aluminum handle has a thin crack on one side near the top pin – see photos.  This survival machete/fighting knife is about 13″ / 33 cm overall; the blade is about 8-1/2″ / 21.5 cm long. Original leather scabbard with thin leg leather straps was made by Goldseal in Sydney, Australia. Australian military “broad arrow” acceptance stamp and inspector’s initials JO near the throat, manufacturing stamp GOLDSEAL / 1944 / SYDNEY on the top part of the hanger. All original rivers and stitching are intact; the keeper and thin leg leather straps  are damaged; the leather is a bit dry. The back is signed with what looks like Jerrins RJ / NY / ….. (some small numbers) on the top and in larger letters Jerrinns RS in the center. The letters are in faded ink and are hard to read.

These Aussie scabbards are actually more scarce than the knives as most di1d not fare well in the jungle environment; very few survived the war. This scarce WW2 Australian-made USAAF survival machete / fighting knife and its original scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; the set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass and Aussie Sixpence are not is not included with the lot 😉

Almost 80 years after it was made this rareWW2 Australian-made USAAF survival machete is is in 100% serviceable condition still. This type is hard to find in any condition these days – don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
