US Civil War era M1855 socket bayonet for .58 caliber Springfield musket; original locking ring intact; great overall condition, considering the age.
Scarce original Model 1855 socket bayonet .58 caliber Springfield muskets M1855 through M1863. A bit used but in better than average condition for the type. The heavy-duty triangular “spike” blade is about 16” / 40.6 cm long; about 19-1/4” / 49 cm overall. The blade is straight with no nicks or dings on the spine; the tip is intact. The blade is stamped US and with a small letter A at the base of the socket. Original locking ring is intact; it rotates nicely but may use some oiling; there is no scabbard. A lot of remaining M1855 bayonets were cut-up to make trench daggers during WW2; this type is scarce this nice and complete.
This rare original US Civil War era M1855 socket bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos. I have several WW2 fighting knives made from converted WW1 sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
