Description

San Antonio Iron Works WW2 American fighting knife/trench dagger made from WW1 era M1913 Cavalry Saber – commonly known as  the “Patton Sword”. VERY rare type in any shape or form nowadays.

Scarce WW2 era fighting knife / trench dagger made in Texas by San Antonio Iron Works from the tip of the WW1 era M1913 Cavalry Saber, aka the “Patton Sword”. These “Patton Sword” daggers were made during the war by several manufacturers under a government contract from M1913 sabers and even older Civil War swords. Only a few types of such “sword knives” were positively ID’d as made my a certain maker. The “San Antonio” daggers and knives are some of the best known examples of such side arms.   This exact type is illustrated on pages 220-221 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons.

A narrow dual-edge fullered blade is about 8″ / 20.3 cm; the dagger is about 12-7/8” / 32.8 cm overall; dual-edge blade is very sharp still with no edge nicks or dings, the tip is intact. Wood handle scales with brass rivets, solid steel guard still has some of the original blueing; minor surface rust on the guard is noted for accuracy (cleanable). The handle is in great condition overall; all parts are tight with no play. There is no scabbard. This type of WW2 fighting daggers is rare these days – today most of the surviving WW2 “Patton Sword” fighting knives are in private collections and are off the market.

This San Antonio Iron Works WW2 American fighting knife is one of the best WW2 era “non-regulation” US fighting knives with a lot of character and it’s in great overall condition, considering the age. Don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!

We have several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.  This rare knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
