A rare pre-WW1 manufacture Order of St. Stanislav 1st Class large silver breast star made by made by the renown imperial jeweler Albert Keibel in St. Petersburg, Russia. Albert Keibel is considered to be one of the most important Russian jewelers of the late imperial era, second only to the equally-famous Karl Faberge. From 1882 to about 1910 Albert Keibel was awarded the imperial warrant for the creation of all Russian civil and military orders. Albert Keibel ran his family’s jewelry studio and a shop located at 30 Bolshaya Zelenina Street in St. Petersburg, until his death in 1910; all of Keibel’s creations are highly collectible nowadays.
A vaulted and eight-pointed star, the obverse featuring pebbled rays, bearing a central enameled medallion overlaid by a central gilt silver monogram of St. Stanislaus. Center medallion with green, white, and red “hot-applied” enamels; green and white field are intact; letter “S” in the center has a few tiny red enamel ships missing. The center monogram is surrounded by a raised and gilt silver inscription of PRÆMIANDO INCITAT (“REWARDING ENCOURAGES”), surrounded by a green enameled ring with clusters of gilt silver laurel branches. Gilt silver reverse with a wide barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch; the hinge is stamped with the Imperial eagle hallmark and small Keibel stamp. The star’s reverse is stamped with the larger Keibel logo and the imperial eagle/84 silver fitness stamps. The star measures about 90 mm high by 88.9 mm wide, about 53.4 grams.
