Description
Scarce pre-WW2 5-inch blade Ideal hunter in rare practically unused condition with original leather sheath. Proudly made in Gladstone, Michigan, USA circa 1923-1930s (small nut pommel, half-hilt, left-pointing serif in letter A on the logo). Marble’s was one of the best US makers of hunting knives, axes and other outdoor gear since 1898. Since the Ideal was introduced, its design was copied under different names by various companies all over the world.
This pre-WW2 Ideal is in much better than average condition for the type as most of these handy knives were used as intended. The knife is about 9-1/8″ / 23 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ / 12.7 cm. The edge seems to be factory-original; it is very sharp still; the tip is intact. Vintage 3-line Marble’s logo with left-pointing serif in letter A on ricasso. Stacked leather washes handle with brass and red-n-black fiber spacers, “small nut” aluminum pommel and bronze half-guard. The handle is solid, all parts are tight with no play. Original leather sheath is in excellent condition as well. The leather is soft and supple still; the keeper is intact; some stitching loss on one side is noted for accuracy. The original owner’s faded collection sticker on the back indicates $425 purchase price in January 2002. Despite the advanced age, this oldtimer is in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care this vintage Ideal hunter will last you another 100 years 😉
This vintage Marbles Ideal hunting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos. I have a few vintage American knives and bayonets, as well as a number of scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
