Scarce circa 1890th very well-made full tang construction Bowie knife with the classic shape spear-point blade, jigged bone “stag” handle scales and German silver cross guard. Made by the famous JOSEPH ALLEN & SONS in Sheffield, England; this Bowie is in great overall condition, considering the age. Sheffield-made knives always played a big part in the American history. From the Gold Rushes in California and Yukon, to the battles the Civil War and in the frontier – Sheffield Bowies and daggers were hugely popular in every corner of the United States.
This attractive Bowie is used, but it is in much better than average condition. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the very end of the tip is slightly chipped. Ricasso is stamped JOSEPH / ALLEN & SONS / SHEFFIELD / ENGLAND; the blade is stamped NON•XLL on one side. This Joseph Allen Sons Sheffield Bowie knife is about 10″ / 25.4 cm; the blade is about 6″ / 15.2 cm long. Jigged bone handle scales are not chipped or cracked; cross guard is tight; all handle parts are solid with zero play; there is no sheath.
