Description
Indian Wars era US M1873 socket bayonet for .45-70 Springfield trapdoor rifle, original metal scabbard. Very good overall condition, considering the age.
Original Indian Wars era Model 1873 socket bayonet for .45-70 Springfield trapdoor family of rifles. This specimen used, but it is still in better than average condition for the type. The heavy-duty triangular “spike” blade is about 18-1/2” / 47 cm long; the bayonet is about 21-1/8” / 53.5 cm overall; socket length is about 3″ / 76 mm. The blade is straight with no nicks or dings on the spine or edges; original tip is intact. The blade is stamped US on ricasso. Original metal scabbard is in very good shape, considering the age. There is no frog. During WW2 years a lot of surviving M1873 “spike” bayonets were cut-up to make trench daggers and fighting knives like this one; this type is scarce this nice and complete.
This scarce Indian Wars M1873 socket bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos. I have a few scarce WW1 and WW2 bayonets, fighting knives, daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in my store’s Militaria section.
