Description
Rare WW2 era German utility knife issued to the German Armed Forces (Wehrmacht) and the RAD – Reich Labour Service (Reichsarbeitsdienst) units alike. The large wood handle is stamped on one side WEHR. 1940; the high-carbon drop-point retractable blade is unmarked. The knife is about 12″ / 35.5 cm with the blade fully extended; the blade extends to about 3-1/2” / 9 cm. The edge is razor-sharp still; seems to be an original edge; the tip is intact.
One-piece wood handle with a simple blade locking metal linear lock; steel collar securely holds the retractable blade in place. The handle is intact with no cracks or chips. This is a simple, but a very practical knife. A seldom seen type as it wasn’t a particularly desirable trophy or a collectable item after the war. Most of these utility knives were used as intended – in the workshops or in the field; this type is VERY hard to find these days, especially with the brittle thin blade intact.
This rare Germany WW2 WEHR 1940 utility knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot. We have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
