Bridgeport Gun Implement Hunting Bowie, stag handle with German silver fittings and FH DRAKE name tag, leather sheath. Rare antique 1880s American Bowie knife in great overall condition, considering the age.
Antique US-made Bridgeport Gun Implement Company (B.G.I. Co.) Hunting Bowie with rare genuine stag grips handle option made in the 1880s. The knife is used but it’s in better-than-average condition for the type. This antique B.G.I. Co. model No. 501 Bridgeport Gun Implement Hunting Bowie is about 12-3/8″ / 31.4 cm overall; “trailing clip-point” blade is about 7-7/8” / 20 cm. The blade has been re-sharpened; the edge is very sharp still, the tip is intact. This is a solid full-tang construction knife with rare genuine stag handle option on brass pins. Nickel-silver double-guard and name tag. The tag is stamped FH DRAKE in small letters. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play; no chips or cracks on stag handle scales – this type is VERY rare this nice. Brown leather sheath with a floral design on the front panel is probably not original to the knife, but it fits the blade perfectly. The leather is soft and supple; some minor stitching loss on the tip is noted for accuracy. Some time ago the tip has been “stitched” with a copper wire instead. This antique Bridgeport Gun Implement Hunting Bowie type is VERY hard-to-find this nice and complete; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
