Description
WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife, large blued 8-in blade, original leather scabbard. Rare type in great overall condition, considering the age.
Scarce WW2 era fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado. This exact type is illustrated on page 237 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons. This large fighter is about 13-1/6” / 33.2 cm overall; a massive fullered and blued blade is about 8″ / 20.3 cm. The edge has been lightly re-sharpened ; it is razor-sharp still, the tip is intact. No typical spine dings or edge nicks; about 70% of the original blade bluing remaining. Stacked leather washers handle with black and red fiber spacers at the ends, solid steel guard and hammer-like heavy duty thick iron pommel. The handle is tight with no play; all leather washers are intact. Original leather scabbard is only slightly used; the original keeper, stitching and rivets are intact.
This WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife is by far the best “non-regulation” fighting knife Western Cutlery produced for the American military during the war. The G46-8 fighter was very popular with the troops and most were used in the field as intended. These giant fighters are usually beat-up with nicked/ harshly sharpened/ rusted blades or with original bluing mostly gone. This WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife is in better-than-average condition for the type, don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
This original WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉 This attractive WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. I have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
