Description

WW2 Russell Green River fighting knife made from antique JJ Russell & Co. Green River Works hunter; original leather scabbard. Rare type type in great condition, considering the age.

Scarce early 1900th American Hunting knife made by JJ Russell & Co. Green River Works that was re-worked during WW2 and turned into a handy fighting knife. Early in the war a lot of civilian knifemakers and small private enterprises were making fighting knives for the American servicemen from whatever blades and materials they could find in order to satisfy the demand for the much-needed edged weapons. Now, this is a cool-looking and practical fighter but I would rather see the “host” hunter be left alone as these original Green River Works are very hard-to-find nowadays.

This specimen is in great condition, considering the age. Original cross-guard was removed during conversion; the blade has been re-sharpened; it is very sharp still; the tip is intact. The blade is stamped with JJ Russell & Co. Green River Works logo on one side; although the stamp is barely visible now. Solid full-tang construction; hardwood handle scales with 5 iron pins handle; all parts are tight. The scales are in very good condition with no major damage or repairs; a few small cracks near the butt are noted for accuracy. The knife is about 10-3/4″ / 27.3 cm overall; the blade is about 6″ / 15.2 cm long. WW2 era issue leather scabbard is in very good condition, considering the age. The leather is a little dry; the top part of the hanger is stamped 227S; original collection brass tag is still attached (could be easily removed if you wish to do so).  Don’t miss your chance to add this rare WW2 Russell Green River fighting knife to your collection!
