Original World War 2 era Royal Brand Cutlery Co. “bird’s beak pommel” fighting knife in excellent overall condition – a nice find!  These “private purchase” fighting knives were manufactured during the war in New York by Royal Brand and were sold through F.W. Woolworth network of stores. This exact type is illustrated on page 215 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).

This knife is in excellent overall condition – the blade is only gently used, original rosewood handle scales are intact, no nicks on the edge; the tip is intact. Solid full-tang construction with a generous-size handle with exotic rosewood scales. Steel double-guard and pins; handle scales are excellent; all parts are tight. One side of the blade is finely etched with the ROYAL company logo; hardwood scales have GI’s matching serial number O-1637568 engraved on both sides (“O” prefix indicates that this individual was an officer; additional research is needed). One side of the handle is also initialed with a capital letter R. The same serial number is matching the number on the back of the scabbard. The knife is about 11-1/2″ / 29.2 cm overall; the blade is about 7″ / 17.7 cm. Rare original brown leather scabbard is included; it’s in excellent condition, considering the age. All original rivets, stitching and keeper are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. Overall, this rare WW2 Royal Brand Cutlery American fighting knife original scabbard is in great overall condition; a must-have for any serious collector of “non-regulation” WW2 American fighting knives.

This rare WW2 Royal Brand Cutlery American fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos.  I have several fighting knives made from converted sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
